Research is not new to Indian country and in fact, was an integral part of the medicine man and the tools they used for healing. Today research is evolving at an ever increasingly rapid rate and the results from these studies are as important today as they were in the past. Too often, however, access to these tools are lost in the rapid pace of today's world. Office personnel, tribal governments and research personnel change and the connections to research projects are buried in paperwork and lost networks.

It is the purpose of this project to develop a resource for Tribal governments, universities, researchers, and community members to access the variety of research that has been done in Indian country. Access to this information will enable better usage of the information by the Tribes, the researchers and most importantly, the communities.

Strong Heart Study

The Strong Heart Study (SHS) is the largest research project to be conducted in Indian country to date.  The SHS is a study of cardiovascular disease and its risk factors among American Indian men and women from 13 tribes and communities from three geographic areas.  Data from this research project has provided an abundance of information for other research trials as well as medical journal publications.  More information on this study may be accessed by clicking here.
