Field Services

MBIRI personnel are proficient in the many details that make a field clinic successful. Staff members include fluent Lakota speakers, personnel specializing in Grant management and dedicated to working with IRB’s to insure complete disclosure of project goals, plans and activities. Other staff members specialize in the morbidity and mortality component of research; data collection of psychosocial and quality of life instruments; data collection of dietary and various demographic instruments; physical assessments and collection and processing of laboratory specimens for analysis at both local and national medical laboratories. Quality assurance procedures, data entry and recruitment are important skills, which the field personnel are adept at doing and teaching. The staff sonographer who does Echocardiograms and Carotid Artery Ultrasounds is a Registered Radiographer as well as a Registered Mammographer.

Protocol Development

Protocols are a critical tool in assuring uniform procedures in data collection, data entry and ultimately data use. MBIRI staff specializes in the review and implementation of protocols to assist coordinators, principal investigators and field personnel in standardized data collection. Performance is enhanced with protocols, which are designed for field use, helping to meet the goals of all personnel.

Develop Tracking and Interview Instruments

The instrument used for data collection and quality assurance should capture the needs of the program and be useable for community members and field technicians. MBIRI can assist with development or recommendation of instruments that can generate the reports needed for progress reports of both program goals and site or technician
specific progress. This is an important and effective means of communicating with community and funding sources; and identifying personnel progress early in the project.

Training

Staff training and procedure reviews can help to set the pace for quality data collection in the field sites. MBIRI staff is experienced in assisting projects to develop goals, troubleshoot existing practices and procedures and work to develop solutions to data gathering problems. Training needs to include the promotion and education of community in rural and Reservation areas to encourage partnerships in project goals.
